Group Rides

At GEARS we like to take the bike purchase to the next level, come out and ride with us! (Of course those of you who already have a bike are invited as well!) GEARS Bike Shop offers different types of rides for different riding styles.

At GEARS, your safety, and those riding with you, comes first. Helmets are mandatory, and to participate in any group ride, Insurance through the Ontario Cycling Association ($32), must be purchased, along with a signed waiver in advance of the first ride.

Please click on the link below to print, fill out and sign the waiver to bring with you when you come into the store, or do it at the store.

Group Rides – Mississauga & Oakville

Gears Mississauga & Oakville – Saturday group rides:

from Gears Port Credit: leaves at 8:15am
from Gears Oakville: leaves at 8:30am

Both groups will ride and plan to meet at Munn’s United Church is on the North east Corner of 6th Line and Dundas.

There are a few different routes we take depending on how people feel and who comes out.  In the height of the season there is a group that does a 100+km ride a second that does a 95km ride and a third that does a 75km ride. The long ride is typically faster (over 35km/hr) and the shorter ones around 25-30km/hr.   The basic 115km route is

  1. Starting at GEARS BIKE SHOP, West along Lakeshore Rd. to Clarkson Rd.
  2. North on Clarkson to Truscott
  3. West on Truscott to Ford Drive/9th Line
  4. North on 9th Line to Lower Base Line
(the group usually stays together until this point)
  5. West on Lower Base Line over the 2 wooden bridges to Appleby Line (the road winds a bit so it is good to be with someone who knows the route if it’s your first time)
  6. South on Appleby to First Line
  7. West on First Line to Cedarsprings
  8. North on Cedarsprings into Kilbride
  9. West on Kilbride (where Cedarsprings ends) to Center Rd in Carlisle
  10. North on Center Rd. to Campleville Rd
  11. East on Campleville Rd. into Campleville (we usually stop at the convenience store on the north-east corner of Campleville Rd and Guelph line (beside the gas station) so everyone can get a drink and the different groups meet up again for the ride home)
  12. East out of Campleville to 5th Line and East on 5th Side Road 13. South on 6th Line to Steeles
  13. east on Steeles (only about 500metres on Steeles) and south again on 6th Line
  14. South on 6th Line to Lower Base Line
  15. East on Lower Base Line to either 9th Line (in which case you go backwards steps 4-1 above) or continue on Lower Base Line which becomes Eglinton and then go south on Mississauga Road back to GEARS BIKE SHOP.

It would be a good idea to have a Southern Ontario Road map with you the first couple of times out until you get your bearings. The roads twist a bit and it’s easy to lose your sense of direction. Do not do this ride without a cell phone and everything you need to fix a flat (little bag under your seat, air cartridge and inflator, spare tube, tire levers). Helmets and OCA insurance are mandatory on our rides.
